Won't be long now boys and girls. Bow season will be here in less than 2 weeks. I've got a beach trip with the wife this weekend, then the next weekend it's game on! I've switched from compound bows to traditional archery, so we'll see if I can get it done with the longbow this year.

I really hope you fill tags with the long bow. It's definitely a different skill to learn.

I had a buddy that switch from a compound bow with all the whistles and bells to a traditional recurve bow with nothing on it and he wound up liking it a lot better once he learned instinctive shooting. Nothing to adjust or breakdown on it.

Nothing to adjust or breakdown on it. That was one of the big draws for me. Once you get the right arrow set up, you're done. No sights or rests to adjust, no release, no peeps moving or D loops wearing out. Just a stick and a string. The learning curve is pretty steep though. I started in December of last year and I've shot literally thousands of arrows lol. It's kinda like throwing a baseball I guess, it just takes time for your mind to program everything shooting instinctively.

I go back to work tonight at 4, but I've got one more hunting chore to knock out this morning. I have permission to hunt a little place that's only 10 acres or so, but surrounded by thousands of acres of NF. I'm headed out there this morning to set up a pop up and a feeder, then after that I'm just waiting on deer season!!

We used to hunt Crockett National Forest a lot, 160,000+ acres! I am part owner of it might as well hunt on it. Just have to watch out for the idiots....

There are some good deer killed in there every year. I hunt it a little bit. Week days there are very few people out there.

That's what we figured out too, middle of the week and towards the end of the season it got pretty quiet out there. Had some good times and made some good memories out there. That is what I would actually call hunting, scouting for fresh tracks and setting up on them.
Now, I just climb up my high dollar King Ranch blind, drink coffee, eat a couple of cookies, listen to my ipod, talk on the radio and kick back until something walks up that I want to shoot. Oh well, I guess that suits me now days. It's all good.

I still like to bow hunt from tree stands and ground blinds until it gets cold...then I sleep late and hunt in the evenings from a box stand with a heater!!

Hope you get one!
I shot a pig this morning, but never found it. Oh well, the buzzards and predators will take care of it.
