Hey ya'll sorry it took so long to update. We got to the ranch Friday about 11:00 a.m. We went straight out and set up some pop ups and got them brushed in really good. Went back to camp, got showered and changed and got in the blinds about 2:00. At around 5:30 i could hear corn crunching coming down the sendero from my left. A few seconds later I saw the shadow of his horns in the road because the sun was at his back. They looked like they were wider than the road he was coming down. I went ahead and came to full draw, and as soon as he came into view he was at about 10 yards. I had dumped out a big pile of corn in front of my blind and I guess he didn't like it for whatever reason. He turned to his left and started walking away from my blind. By now I could tell for sure he was a shooter. He stopped quartering away at around 22 yards and I'm still holding at full draw. Now I like that quartering away shot and I'm comfortable taking it, so I settled the pin about halfway back on the rib cage and aimed for the exit on his off-side shoulder. As I released he took a full step to his left, and I watched in horror as my arrow buried up in his right ham...horrible feeling. He sort of loped off and I lost sight of him in the brush. I collected myself for a few minutes and then walked to where he was standing. There was a LOT of blood at the spot where he had been, and it looked like someone had poured blood out of a bucket going off into the brush. I followed it about 30 yards and then I saw horns sticking up behind a clump of cactus!! I got lucky and caught his femoral artery and he was down in about 50 yards!! The cool thing is the taxidermist was able to preserve the velvet, so when I get the mount back it will look just like the pic. First velvet buck I've ever killed and my first bow buck so I am STOKED!! It's gonna be a long year waiting on that mount though lol. The very next morning I went back to the same blind. At about 8:00 I smoked this big doe at 12 yards. After that I pretty much just hung out while everybody else hunted. It's tough hunting down there in that brush when it's 100 degrees, but it was a great trip. Can't wait to go back next year!!

You got a great first bow buck, that's for sure. It is so different being that close to them. Much more exciting! Congrats again!
