That's what I need. My ladder climbing days are gone.

We don't climb ladders, but the winches we have are a pain, one in particular keeps spooling the cable all cockeyed and it's harder and harder to crank.

I highly suggest using double pulleys, we tried the electric winch thing and it didn't work using a single pulley. Anchor off at the top, run the cable though a pulley on the barrel, back through another pulley at the top and the to the winch. This is what we have installed on all 8 of our feeders. Most have been converted over to double pulleys. We just throw the DeWalt 18 volt drill and a couple batteries in the side by side and take off. These things have been working great for about 6 or 8 years now. Also, they are a lot safer then regular boat winches, you can stop the barrel anywhere you want with our worrying about the handle being locked. Takes about 35' of cable for a 14' feeder.

We have also started using the ones from Harbor Freight, they work just as well and they are only $30.

We actually bought six of those 12 volt winches from Harbor Freight (I think they were around $60 each) thinking it would be great to just push a button to make the barrel go up and down, but it would just not happen. We never did figure out what the deal was, I think they were rated for something like 3000 lbs. a barrel only weighs 300 lbs. We were thinking they were going to be over kill. But, it would start to lift them and then after about a foot or so they would just stop turning. Not sure if it was some kind of an amperage issue or what it was.
We also concluded that maybe what we should have bought instead were hoist instead of winches, maybe there is a difference between lifting 3000 lbs and pulling 3000 lbs. We were perplexed to say the least.
I am very interested in seeing how y'alls do, so please keep us updated.
