My mother has three widow lady friends from the old neighborhood and from church that she host every Friday night and they play cards.Every once in a while I make them a treat or fix something for them This week its Great Northern Beans, cornbread,a simple salad, tea, and some cake. The cake is the pineapple cake I made earlier this week.Heres the beans lol!
2# of beans loaded with some chopped onion and ham steak cut into bite sized pieces.Of course Im keeping a couple of servings for myself lol! I always cook my beans a day ahead of serving them.I like them a little thick and they seem to always be better the next day!

My Dad loved Great Northerns. I'm a Pinto Man myself but I'll eat anything, almost.

I make a version of that, from an original "Yankee Bean Soup" recipe I got out of one of those plastic cookbooks sold by Churches and Civic Groups. The secret ingredients were onion, garlic, and in a metal tea bag, a bay leaf, 5 peppercorns, 5 cloves, and 5 whole allspices. Last 3 ingredients kick it over the edge.

I thought Allspice was just a powder. What does allspice look like?
