Well me, Jr and one of my buddies got invited to a ranch out in the Menard area to hunt last weekend. We got there Friday afternoon and got some pop ups set up and brushed in. The first evening my buddy killed a pretty nice 9 point. Saturday morning I killed a doe, then Saturday evening Jr. killed a spike. Sunday morning we slept in, and this may have been caused by a little too much celebration on Saturday night. Sunday evening I sat in the blind with Jr and he killed a doe, and my buddy killed another doe the same evening. So we headed home Monday with 5 deer for the weekend. Turned out to be an EPIC hunt!! We had a blast. Nobody really bow hunts this place so the deer hadn't been hunted at all since last year. We really could have tagged out probably if we had wanted to. Bow season has been great and we still have a bow hunt in South Texas in a couple weeks on the same ranch I killed the big velvet 8 point on last year. Then shortly after that rifle season opens and I have a pretty nice buck here that's been fairly predictable. I know that's subject to change soon as the bucks start cruising but I'm hoping to get him!! My doe Jr's spike And Jr's doe

That sure sounds like a great time. Got some meat for the freezer, and got to spend time with family and friends.

That sure sounds like a great time. Got some meat for the freezer, and got to spend time with family and friends. It was great. I'm pretty proud of Jr. He's followed me around in the woods since he was a baby lol but he's really turning into a good bow hunter now. He'll be 20 in December, and starting the police academy not too long after that. He's already working full time at the S.O. here as a jailer so I just try to spend as much time with him as I can now. I know when he gets out of the academy he'll end up at another department and with our crazy schedules hunts like we go on now will be harder and harder to put together. Just the way it goes I guess. They grow up way too fast.

Yep, it's a double edge blade, being happy for them really starting their own path in life, and knowing that it means less time together. Like you said, just enjoy it when you get the chance.
